a voice behind

This morning on the 700 Club (March 4) there was a woman who had a wreck and she heard a voice saying to get out of the car because it was on fire. When she said that she couldn’t, the man helped her out somehow. When help came, the man had disappeared. The only thing left unburned was her and her Bible. This made me think of a couple instances in my life where I heard a voice when I was in danger and really in need of help.

The first in chronological order was when at Thanksgiving time I was driving to a singles potluck. The road there was through a bit of farmland type scenery. I heard a voice saying to slow down because of possible deer. As I put my foot on the brakes, I saw the eyeballs of a deer in front of my car. I was able to slow down just enough to let him pass right in front. I wasn’t going fast in the first place but God was there and knew everything.

The second time I heard some words behind me was after midnight when I was housesitting at a friend’s house to take care of her dog. I had been eating at Shoney’s with about 10 people from our singles group. The talk went on and on and soon it was past midnight, so I excused myself to drive the 5 or 6 miles back to my friend’s house. As I drove I noticed a car right up behind me and they were yelling out and kept following me on and on through each traffic light. Soon I realized I would be approaching the dark house and then what? I thought I could go to a liquor store, but what if they weren’t open; maybe they just kept their lights on. Then I thought I could go to my mom’s cousin’s house, but they would be asleep. Then I thought I could go to the city hall, but it would surely would be locked. By then I was nearly to the last traffic light before I turned the corner to the house, which was half way down the block on the right. Well, I went through on yellow and the car behind me had to stop. I considered getting on the freeway which was on further north, but as I reached the corner to turn, a voice said, turn off your lights and turn the corner. So I did, then pulled way up into the driveway (no garage). As soon as I pulled up, here came the car driving slowing, looking, looking, looking. They drove right past the house and kept going. After I didn’t see the car anymore, I quickly got in the house and turned no lights on and slept on the couch all night. Whew, thank You Lord!!!

The third time was driving east back home on the interstate to visit my mom. A jeep from Vermont with 3 guys passed me and then it would stop and pass me again. This happened several times. They would slow down and look into the car. I was by myself and was getting a bit concerned to say the least. I was hoping to get a little further and turn off to the town where my mother was. Well, the jeep was stopped ahead as I went on and then it came up next to me on my left and tried to jeer me over. Here’s what God gave me to do: I sang Psalm 34 and kept firmly planted on the highway. As I kept singing and singing, all of a sudden they shot forward and I never saw them again. “I will bless the Lord at all times.”

After I got married and then with children, I prayed, “Lord, thank You for a safe trip” when I got in the car to drive. I went muchos years with no traffic tickets – over 20, but then I got one for not stopping at a stop sign when I was in a hurry to get our son from his job one late night.

He Leadeth Me

Started Singing this hymn this morning and just love the words and then tried it on harmonica – quite rusty, but oh well – who really reads this blog anyway – I enjoy putting videos on it and music to some of them. He leads us by His own hand. See Psalm 23
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Yesterday I finally put up a few Christmas decorations – have lots more, but why use them all every year – kind of like trading toys with kids – keep some back and then rotate them – they seem like new.
