our resident woodchuck is dead

We have been battling this animal for many years, at least 8. It lived under our drain pipe at the end of the driveway. It has eaten my young summer squash. Yesterday it got hit by a car and was upside down & dead on the driveway this morning. My husband had gone to buy some rain barrels and when he came home I was trying to get the heavy thing in the trash bag by wrapping it in another trash bag; I was so glad he got home to help. And then he said: “Ha. That thing was on the street since yesterday afternoon!” I said, “You coward, why didn’t you take care of it??????” Crazy. Anyway, now it is gone, since today is trash day . Hip Hip Horrah ! ! ! ! ! So glad to have that thing out of our lives!

UPDATE August 13 ~ A younger one has taken its place ~ Ugh~ ~ ~  ! !

crying squirrel

This is what I heard as I was reading “In a Bosnian Trench.” So I got up to see what kind of bird was on our front porch, but it was a partly grown squirrel making a racket. I took a video with my phone, but can’t figure out how to put it on here. So I present a youtube video of a like-sounding squirrel.

I am trying to learn all about Bosnia and the war there in the early and mid ’90s (since we have a significant Bosnian population living among us presently). I wish I had known more when I met some of them at at the neighborhood/soccer game day over a week ago now. I read the Bosnian Anne Frank story, which was very good.

This is not the book I read, but I did read Nadja’s book, “My Childhood Under Fire.”

painting rocks

I’ve enjoyed painting rocks for a few years now. At present I am aiming at painting 100 rocks to sell at craft fairs this Spring and Summer and Fall.

When we took a glorious trip to Israel in 2008 my daughter bought this T-shirt. I have been very slowly learning the Hebrew alphabet and it is so rich in meaning. I want to keep trying and plugging away at it. I painted a few of these animals on this t-shirt which will be one way to learn words. So far I know camel and lion 🙂 and of course toda is thank-you and ken is yes, lo is no and shalom is hello, goodbye and peace.

Also made some magnets.

I got the idea of painting rocks from a book I found at the library – Here it is – Let’s Rock
