purple kind of day

It is a purple kind of day – rain on top of snow. The snow began to melt in the night, then it started raining and thundering this afternoon. There is flooding expected and happening in some places, such as our basement storage room and bathroom. We live on a hill, making it very possible for the rain to seep in, which it usually does in a storm, even though we try to pile up dirt and make ways for the water to drain away from the house. It’s an ongoing battle, but thankful for a roof over our heads, a new roof at that!! : )
All this last week CBN had interviews of people who had died and come back to tell about it; I loved it all and I love the kindness of God. His ways are unsearchable.
Jesus is a Rock

Jesus is a rock in a weary land
A weary land
A weary land
Jesus is a rock in a weary land
A shelter in the time of storm

Has he ever made a way when you didn’t have a dime?
Has he ever stepped in just right on time?
Has he ever picked you up when you were down?
Has he ever placed your feet on solid ground?
Then you know he is a rock in a weary land
A weary land
A weary land
Then you know he is a rock in a weary land
A shelter in the time of storm

Sopranos

A shelter in the time of storm

Altos

A shelter in the time of storm
(Repeat)

Tenors
Jesus is a rock he is my shelter in the time of storm
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

A shelter in the time of storm

oregano tea

I recently found Prevention’s book on home remedies. It suggested oregano tea for relief of excess mucus. I tried this just now and am at the stage of runny nose – it works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so glad to find this remedy because of long-standing problem of coughing up junk. I know it’s bad to recycle mucus by swallowing, so I’m tired of spitting. So glad to know about oregano tea and I even have some oregano growing outside, but the dried from the store works too.

lentil chili

Lentil Chili

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup dry lentils
1 cup dry bulgur wheat
3 cups vegetable broth
2 cups canned whole tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot over medium high heat, combine the oil, onion and garlic and saute for 5 minutes. Stir in the lentils and bulgur wheat. Add the broth, tomatoes, chili powder, cumin and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until lentils are tender.

love this recipe = very simple and goes well with cornbread.

sourdough pancakes

Next is sourdough pancakes.

A recipe I will try – one I altered a lot – from cookeatshare.com:

Approx 1 cup sourdough starter
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 -3/4 cup water
1/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. baking powder
2 Tbsp. ground flax + 4 Tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Night before: combine starter, flour and water; cover and leave at room temperature at least 7 hours.

In the morning stir the mixture. Add the remaining ingredients. Let batter rest 5 minutes.

Cook pancakes on griddle; turn when bubbles form

Makes about 14-17 1/4 cup pancakes.

nice warm day and puzzle

fiinished this puzzle this weekend – so glad because it’s 3-D and the shine on them was a challenge to work with. I painted the brown frame pool blue. It will go in our bathroom once I get the nail holes filled in and painted light blue like the other bathroom.

such a gorgeous day today – took about a 3-mile walk by the river in a park and sat on a bench for a long time soaking in the sun. a bit slushy but so nice to be out. There were about 3 coal trains that went by too.

another sunny day

I love the sun on the snow and the blue skies. I thought the tree shadow looked nice on the snow.

I spent most the morning today finishing this puzzle. The cat ate parts of 2 pieces, but I will frame it anyway for the living room because I like it.

After lunch I went out and dug in on the shoveling. It worked good to fill the wheelbarrow with snow then dump it out. I made lots of headway but still a bunch remains. Just so I can get out by Sat. and I’ll be a happy camper!!

I bought this a while back and framed it. It is handmade by someone – I like the milk cans.

more snow pictures this groundhog’s day

I think this is a finch.

the kitty cat tracks – I wonder if it will eat the mouse I saw in there. I hope so.

We have a ways to go on the driveway.

I finished reading “From Mountain Man to Millionaire,” a bio on Robert Campbell. This picture is of his wife, Virginia. The more I looked at this picture the more I realized it was the same as a portrait given to my in-laws by a family member. I think there was some relation, but that will have to be figured out by someone other than me because I wouldn’t know where to start. Robert and Virginia Campbell had no grandchildren, as 10 of their 13 children died young of various diseases. The 3 remaining sons never married.
