unproductive day

did some laundry, read 5 chapters in Deuteronomy, was here when roadside assistance got flat tire off car using a big mallet, messed around on computer too long, ate popcorn and sourdough bread with raisins and almond butter. time to finish laundry and clean some of the house. big snow coming and very cold temps, altered my nephew’s picture a bit to my liking – gross picture but i made it a little better

I Cor. 15:58

I read the blog post that was pressed about friend Ginnie who recently died of cancer, I’m guessing. Such a beautiful young girl. I happened to read I
cor. 15 today. Maybe I needed it before I read about Ginnie, since cancer is always so so so so so sad. My sister and mom both went through it all. I am thankful for hope and that death is swallowed up in victory.

sourdough carrot cake

sourdough recipies

Grate two medium carrots, or enough for 1 cup. In a small saucepan, add just enough water to cover, and simmer about 20 minutes.

Cream 1/4 cup shortening, 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Add 1 egg and beat until smooth. Mix in a dash of salt, 1/4 teaspoon each nutmeg and allspice, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons baking soda.

In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup starter, 1/4 cup milk, 1 1/2 cups flour and the cooked carrots with their cooking water (to make 1 cup). Add 1/2 cup raisins and/or chopped nuts, if you wish.

Combine all ingredients well. Grease the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan, line its bottom with wax paper and grease the paper. Pour the batter into the pan and bake about 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven until it tests done.

For Applesauce Cake, substitute 1 cup applesauce for the carrots.

puzzle, cat and chairs

Update on what I’ve been doing. I finished the puzzle I got for Christmas and wanted to keep it so I put Modge Podge and put it in a really cool homemade frame I got for $2 at thrift store. I moved a chair into the living room so we could have our Bible study/fellowship with our friends soon. I moved the bench I got into family room for cat bench. Now I can sit there and talk to her and pet her. The thing isn’t comfortable for adults anyway, but I really liked the wagon wheels on the sides.

I am going to pay for a month of vender fees for our local farmer market so am looking into things I can sell. I love making bags, so I’ll start there. I’d also like to sell tomatoes, hopefully squash, herbs and fresh cut flowers. If these 4 weeks go well maybe I could do more the next year.

I remembered I could make soap to sell at Market. I love my homemade lye soap, but it doesn’t get used up too fast since only I like to use it. Miller’s homemade soap has lots of info plus links to others who make it! : )

Here are some pics of the same bar of soap I made a few years ago but is still perfectly fine to use. It weighs 3.5 oz. I think I read to try to make them at least 4 oz. but will have to check on that.
